I May Be Wrong, But…
1. I wasn’t happy when I heard Monday night that ex-Met Pedro Feliciano has a torn shoulder capsule that will require surgery. There’s a good chance this will be a career-ending injury to a guy that always was there when the Mets called down to the pen. You know the Yankees are going to blame the Mets for this one for years, but who trades for an old guy that throws 1000 innings a season?
2. I’ve done my fair amount of “deals” in my life. Deals fall through because conditions change from the original handshake agreement agreed by two parties. And persepctive buyers do not issue statements if they are the one that changed the deal. The Einhorn failure screams of another failure of trust perpetrated by the Saul Katz-Fred Wilpon ownership, who have a history of being incompetent, untrustworthy, and just bad people.
3.I was less than thrilled with the choices of LHP Daniel Herrera and RHP Adrian Rosario as compensation for K-Rod. Herrera has had some success in the majors and will compete next spring for a Queens pen slot, but he’s like 5-9 with no velo. Rosario has been nothing but a train wreck since signing as an international kid a few years ago. Very disappointing.
4. I’m starting to realize that the Mets will be going into the 2012 spring training period without a closer. The good news is there is the beginning of a pen there with Pedro Beato, the midget from Milwaukee, Josh Stinson, Manny Acosta (2nd in the league in ERA since 6-28), and Bobby Parnell, but sadly, no closer.
5.The Mets need to give Zach Lutz the proper amount of time to heal from his past concussion. Word is he has pulled out of winter ball and I hope both he and team will deal with this is a proper manner.
