Building 2012 Rosters Prospects First - Picks 71-75:

– LHP Daniel Herrera – Herrera arrived this week as part of the K-Rod deal. In fact, he reported to the Mets, wearing number 19. He has already pitched parts of three seasons in the majors and holds down an ERA of under four. We’ll take it. I have him in Buffalo come spring but there is a good chance he will make the Queens pen as well. ETA: - Now

– 2B Rylan Sandoval – Sandoval was a good pick by the Mets just before the 2010 season started, but he’s far from a prospect. He has only hit .228 this past season for St. Lucie and will move on the Binghamton simply because there is no one challenging him for that job. Organizational player at best. ETA: AAAA

– RP Mike Powers – Powers continues to over-perform as a 32nd round draft pick. He will play 2012 as a 26-year old and should begin the season in Binghamton. So far, career wise: 18-15, 3.20 in 146-appearances. The Mets would gladly take that. ETA: Mets pen 2014

– RP John Church – Church has taken a little bit of a step back this season for St. Lucie (5-2, 4.28, 34-games, 42-K, 29-BB, 69.1-IP) and, though I have him as part of the Binghamton pen next spring, there also is a chance he gets some additional time in Florida. ETA: OOS 2014

– SS Brandon Brown – Brandon was a quiet 22nd round pick in 2010 that under-produced for Kingsport (.209) last season. He got his second chance this year for the Cyclones and has made the best of it, going .299/.356/.467/.823, 6-HR, 16-RBI. People who have prodced far less have moved on and Brown will be the starting shortstop for the Sand Gnats come spring. ETA - TBD
