September 3rd – Staten Island, NY – A night after clinching a playoff spot, the Cyclones won a laugher over the Staten Island Yankees on Saturday night, defeating their rivals by the score of 10-4. The win was the eighth of the season over their cross-borough rivals ensuring that Brooklyn would win the 2011 season series.

Although it was the Cyclones who would get the last laugh, Staten Island drew first blood. The Baby Bombers scored the first run of the game without getting a hit. Cito Culver walked to start the bottom of the first inning for Staten Island and after a stolen base and a wild pitch, the Yankees shortstop came around to score on an RBI groundout from Casey Stevenson.

Cole Frenzel opened the scoring for the Cyclones with a bases loaded two-RBI single that scored Tyler Carpenter and Tillman Pugh to give the Cyclones a 2-1 edge. Brian Harrisonfollowed suit with an RBI single of his own before Frenzel came around to score on a passed ball later in the frame to give the Cyclones a 4-2 advantage.

But Staten Island continued the see-saw scoring by plating a pair in the bottom of the third and then Dante Bichette, Jr. hit a solo blast for the Yankees in the fourth to knot the score at 4-4 heading into the fifth.

In their next turn at-bat though, the Cyclones took control of the game for good thanks to a two-run home run from Nelfi Zapata, who returned from the Disabled List to make his first start since August 3rd. After a scoreless sixth inning Brooklyn padded their lead in the seventh thanks to an RBI single from Brandon Brown that pushed the Cyclones advantage to 7-4.

The Cyclones put a cherry on top of the scoring with a four run out-burst in the ninth inning ,with the big blow coming by way of a three-run home run off the bat of Brian Harrison, to make the final 11-4.
