The latest news on back up catchers they are looking at are Bengie Molina and Greg Zaun. At this time Bengie is on the fence about retiring from baseball. The Cardinals have discussed Bengie as a possibility but would he be intrested in backing up his brother Yadi. The 2005 Angels had Jose and Bengie on the same team. Jose was Bengie's back up. Would the tandom of Yadi and Bengie work out with the Cards. I would say yes. Bengie can come off the bench and play more often to help Yadi's poor legs. Another name that seems to be more reasonable and cheaper is old timer Greg Zaun. One other rumor I had just heard was the possibility of the Pirates sending Ryan Doumit to the Cards for Brendan Ryan. I would think Doumit would want a starting position instead of a back up catcher.
