Matt Carpenter Called Up......Finally

I almost fell out of my chair when I found out that the Cardinals made the call to bring up Matt Carpenter this morning. I have been a huge advocate to bring Matt up to help our poor defensive skills in our infield. With Memphis Carpenter has 2HR  23RBIs  .283BA  .387SLG  with 173 AB. His fielding in Memphis is .977 with 3 errors in 49 games. So tonight is must see TV if LaRussa plays him against the Cubs. This is a player to watch. He is only 25 with a lot of upside. In my opinion I would rather have Matt start most of the games till David Freese comes back. Here is an article that came out this morning from Matt's hometown newspaper.

Elkins High School graduate Matt Carpenter has been called up to the Major Leagues for the first time in his career. He will be in uniform for the first-place St. Louis Cardinals Friday night when they host the Chicago Cubs.
Carpenter graduated from Elkins in 2004 and went on to an ultra-successful college career at TCU. He was selected by the Cardinals in the 13th round of 2009 First Year Player Draft.
The third baseman began this season with AAA Memphis Redbirds of the Pacific Coast League. In 52 games he has a .283 batting average and two home runs among 12 extra-base hits. He also has 23 RBIs and a .421 on-base percentage. In 255 career minor league games he has a .297 batting average, a .406 on-base percentage and 17 home runs.
If Carpenter sticks around long enough he will get a chance to appear with a Major League team near his hometown. After a three-game series with the Cubs, St. Louis travels to Houston for night games Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Carpenter is the second Elkins grad in as many season to get called up to the Majors. In 2010, Chad Huffman played in nine games with the New York Yankees. The 2003 Elkins grad had three singles and two RBIs in 18 at-bats. The Yankees waived him, and the Cleveland Indians claimed him in September. This season Huffman is playing with the Indians' AAA team in Columbus, Ohio.
