Braves Hire Fredi Gonzalez
***BREAKING NEWS***
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Gonzalez will be the next Braves manager. Gonzalez reportedly will be introduced at a press conference on Thursday. Almost from the instant the Marlins fired Gonzalez, speculation began he would be the front runner to replace the retiring Bobby Cox, whose brilliant career ended Monday when the Giants eliminated the Braves in the divisional round.
Wren would have needed a pretty compelling reason not to hire Gonzalez. He was a coach under Cox before taking the Marlins job. He still has relationships with most of the players in that clubhouse. Plus, he comes with a great working knowledge of the National League East having managed in the division three and a half seasons. Gonzalez grew up in Miami but lives in Marietta, Ga.
The Marlins won’t have to wait long to see Gonzalez in his new digs next season. They visit Turner Field April 12-14. Gonzalez will bring his Braves to Sun Life Stadium for the first time June 7-9.
