Cardinals Make an Official Off to Holliday

The Cardinals made a formal offer to free-agent outfielder Matt Holliday on Friday, general manager John Mozeliak told ESPN 101 in St. Louis. Terms of the deal are not known, but Mozeliak told the radio station he expects an answer from Holliday's agent, Scott Boras, within the next 48 hours.
If an offer is accepted, the market for the other prized free-agent left fielder, Jason Bay, will no doubt heat up, with several teams interested in his services.
Mozeliak had a second meeting with Boras before leaving the Winter Meetings in Indianapolis on Thursday, but the Cards declined to set a deadline on negotiations with Holliday.
Holliday, 30 in January, hit .353 with 13 homers and 55 RBIs over the final 63 games of the regular season after being traded to St. Louis from the A's.
