Matt Holliday will undergo an appendectomy procedure this afternoon in St. Louis.
St. Louis Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday will undergo an appendectomy procedure.
The procedure will be performed by Dr. Chris Eagon of the Washington University medical staff.
It's unknown when Holliday will return, possibly 3-to-6 weeks. His status will be determined once he undergoes a complete review by the team's Medical Staff.
I think they caught it early, so I think that's good news," said general manager John Mozeliak. "I don't think it's that bad of a blow to the team.
Mozeliak said he will have a better idea on Saturday how long the 31-year old will be sidelined. Holliday went 3-for-4 with a homer in the Cardinals' opening-day loss to San Diego.
