Last year I blogged about the intrest the Cardinals had on possibly bringing in Joe Crede as a back up Third baseman. Well today Crede signed with the Rockies on a Minor League contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training, the club announced Wednesday. The deal is pending a physical.
Crede, who turns 33 on April 26, last played for the Twins in 2009. He hit .224 with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs in 90 games. Before joining the Twins, Crede played for the White Sox from 2000-08, hit .289 with four home runs in the 2005 postseason as the South Siders won the World Series and earned a trip to the 2008 All-Star Game.
However, back issues reduced Crede's playing time with the White Sox in '07 and '08. With the Twins, he was solid when he was on the field, but he did not play after Sept. 13.
