Rangers Close to signing Beltre

The Texas Rangers and free agent third baseman Adrian Beltre are reportedly close to completing a deal.

According to multiple reports, the Rangers are negotiating with the 31-year-old native of the Dominican Republic, but the terms of the contract are not yet known.

There are conflicting reports about how much progress both sides have made.

According to ESPNdeportes.com, citing a source, both sides are “still talking” and “have not completed the details”, but it added that an agreement appears “imminent

On the other hand, FanHouse.com, citing a major league source, indicated that there was “no deal” Sunday night, but it does not mean both sides have not had discussions.

The deal, according to two Dominican Republic media outlets, is for six years and $90 million, while ESPN.com reported that the pact is for five years with an option for 2016.

The addition of the two-time Gold Glove Award winner and Silver Slugger Award recipient is expected to give Texas a big right-handed bat in the middle of the lineup and also a solid defensive presence at third base.

By inking Beltre, the Rangers would also be able to package 33-year-old Michael Young in a trade or DH him full time.

Beltre posted an impressive season last year with the Boston Red Sox, his best since the 2004 campaign. He hit .282 with 28 home runs and 102 RBIs with the Red Sox.

There is a report coming out of Dallas that Micheal Young has agreed to be a DH/Utility Player. I find this somewhat intresting, I had posted sometime ago that the Rangers where intrested in trading Young. The Cardinals had intrest, but thats what it amounted to. Would it be possible that the Rangers would try to trade him again? I am salivating just thinking of a trade to St.Louis, but its just a dream.
