I have been holding back my thoughts and feelings on Pujols and his contract status due to hoping it will work out sometime soon. Well here we are eleven days away from Albert's deadline, Feb. 15. How is this going to end, a ugly mess? No contract in place and one full season away from becoming a free agent in 2012. I already see Boston, Angels and the Yankees drooling over the possibility of having Pujols as their premiere first baseman. Personally, I have been staying away from reports I am hearing from ESPN, FOXSPORTS and the baseball insiders. With the secrecy that is going on between the Pujols camp and the Cardinals the baseball gods are angry. They are speculating what they think is going on. One report I think that is true is that there has not been any negotiating going on for two weeks*, the POST DISPATCH reports that they "speculate" Pujols is getting aggravated with the Cards lack of talks. Albert's deadline makes sense, he wants his negotiation to speed up and get over with. I don't blame him at all to feel this way. In my opinion, things are about to move. With the Cardinals time spent away from Pujols the past two weeks, I have a feeling they are about to make an offer. They will give the MVP his $30mil but no more than 7yrs. It might even be 5-6yrs. I can't see the team going ten years in his contract. They normally don't do that with a lot of their players. I have a feeling Pujols will be signed in the coming week. If not I think things could go both ways. It could get ugly or a blessing in disguise. The Cards will not trade him. If he goes to free agency he may not like his true worth in the market. The Cards may resign him at that point. I believe in happy endings. I recall Albert talking about Stan Musial as being a inspiration to the team and the town of St.Louis. I can tell.
he wanted to be a Cardinal for life like Musial.
So lets make this happen.
