Renfroe is commited to Ole Miss to play both ways (he can pitch in the low-90s with a power breaking ball), but he has generated some 1-3 round buzz as a shortstop lately. Renfroe has a good hit tool, but he can also put a charge into the ball, as evidenced with a big fly in the Under Armour All Star Game at Wrigley Field last summer. He has good hands and a rocket arm, although his range and size could "limit" him to the hot corner. That's okay, though. Renfroe is an advanced bat who could dominate both ways in college or become a top third base prospect.
Daniel Fields, ss, University of Detroit Jesuit HS (MI)
Fields is the son of former big leaguer and current Indians hitting instructor Bruce, though he is not as polished as his bloodlines would suggest. He also has a strong commitment to Michigan, so it's very possible that he won't go pro yet. His talent alone would merit a 3-7 round selection. The 6-3, 200-pounder has intriguing tools at the plate, as he is strong and has power potential. He is decent at short and has a good arm, but it is more likely that he'll translate into a big-bodied third baseman at the next level. Fields has some helium right now, but it sounds like a team will need to spend some serious money to sway him away from the Wolverines.
Robbie Erlin, lhp, Scotts Valley HS (CA)
Scouts lament Erlin's size, as he could be a first round pick based on his stuff. The 5-10 lefty throws a 88-91 mph fastball and a very good curve. He also has good makeup and is working on a changeup. Erlin is committed to Cal Poly, where he could beef up the Mustangs' improving program.
