Zambrano Retiring?

The Chicago Cubs are in discussions with the agents for Carlos Zambrano about the righthander's retirement threats, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The newspaper reports Zambrano has yet to file any retirement papers. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry and Zambrano's agent, Barry Praver, have yet to comment.

A frustrated Zambrano was ejected from Friday night's loss to the Atlanta Braves after he threw inside twice to third baseman Chipper Jones. The Braves' previous two hitters had homered. In all, Zambrano allowed five homers before being tossed.
Following his ejection, Zambrano cleaned out his locker, left the stadium and said he planned to retire. The Cubs aren't sure whether Zambrano was acting and speaking out of frustration or if his intentions were sincere.
"He didn't have it tonight," manager Mike Quade told reporters following the game. "I'm really disappointed. His locker is empty. I don't know where he's at. He walked out on 24 guys that are battling their (butts) off for him. I don't know where he's gone or what he's doing. I heard he has retired, or talking about retiring. I can't have a guy walking out on 24 guys, that's for damn sure."
Barring a resolution Saturday afternoon, the Chicago Tribune speculates the Cubs will place Zambrano on the restricted list, as they did last season following his altercation with then-Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee in the dugout.
Zambrano, whose 11 seasons with the Cubs have included numerous outbursts, altercations and dramatic incidents, is 9-7 with a 4.82 ERA in 24 starts this season
Zambrano is due $18 million in 2012 and has a vesting option for $19.25 million in 2013.
