St. Louis first baseman Albert Pujols has been named the National League Player of the Month for August.
Pujols batted .379 over 26 games in August and led the National League with 11 home runs. He posted a .777 slugging percentage, scored 29 times and drove in 23 runs.
The three-time NL MVP hit the 400th home run of his career on August 26 in an 11-10 loss to Washington.
Pujols is batting .313 on the year with 35 home runs and 95 RBI. He leads the NL in homers and total bases (292) and is second in RBI and runs scored (92).
In his 10th season in the majors, all with St. Louis, it is Pujols' fifth monthly award and first since June 2009.
Other players receiving votes for the player of the month award were Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez and Cincinnati's Joey Votto.
